All actions carried out in this field are ongoing commitments to achieve economic, social and environmental well-being in all the areas in which the company operates and is present. Environmental challenges are an opportunity to consolidate leadership and so, with this in mind, Cosentino will continue to implement and develop the most advanced environmental management systems and actions.

Policies for sustainability

Encourage carpooling, collective transport for employees, over 2 km of bike lanes/car parks, specific parking for electrically charged vehicles, pedestrian areas and pavements, street lighting with high efficiency technology for new residential developments, use of daylight for indoor lighting of industrial buildings, among others.

Atmospheric control

  • • Minimisation of dust emissions to the atmosphere during operations for delivering materials, storage, transportation, the measuring and mixing of crushed and micronised materials.
  • • Filtration of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) through thermal oxidation. Specific programmes to register and reduce emission leakage are in place, and regenerative thermal oxidation facilities are present in all the manufacturing plants that require them. This is a system based on the use of heat exchangers in the form of ceramic blocks that allow for the combustion of the organic compounds involved. In recent years, Cosentino has managed to filter 98% of emissions generated.

Water management

Cosentino promotes the rational use of water via the implementation of measures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its use:

  • Reuse of water in production cycles, encouraging the target of ‘Zero Waste’.
  • Protection and recovery of the public water supply and associated ecosystems.
  • Industrial wastewater treatment plant for all production plants in order to recover 97% of the water used in their process.

Energy efficiency

With the goal of reducing energy consumption in its industrial processes and at its facilities, Cosentino has implemented:

  • A system to monitor the electrical energy of the various industrial processes.
  • An intensive use of joint applications: frequency converter and electric induction engine to optimise and minimise operating costs.
  • Utilisation of maintenance systems based on infrared thermography to control efficiency and the energy performance of the different production processes.
  • Use of electric vehicles for transportation within the industrial park.

Waste management

Thanks to the implementation of ‘clean technologies’ and waste minimisation strategies we have managed to increase the efficiency of our processes in addition to reducing the waste generated per unit produced. Cosentino Group follows the ‘3R principle’:

    the quantity of waste that is generated in the workplace. For example, reducing the number of photocopies by 25%.

    the waste that can be used again, extending the useful life of a product or packaging, or buying products in returnable containers.

    is something that Cosentino does at every stage.

The extraction of the raw material from the quarry is done efficiently; up to 95% of the material extracted is used.

Stone waste leftover from the production process that is not reusable for manufacturing other products is used to produce aggregate. Close to 100% of such waste is thus recycled for other uses.

Landscape restoration

Cosentino, through its commitment to the environment, works to restore quarries and tips to ensure the recovery of the landscape and the environment.

The environmental strategy used at the Company’s quarries strives to recover spaces for the landscape to be reintegrated into the environment.

Cosentino does this via different practices such as slope stabilisation, minimising tips, and controlling natural erosion.

These, and other activities, have allowed environmentally friendly actions with the quarry extraction areas to be established, as well as generating green ground cover with species native to the area.
